Discover the Truth About Reverse Osmosis Water!

Reverse osmosis water is a hot topic in the water treatment community. The filtration method has grown in popularity over the years, but it is not without its detractors.

One common objection to RO water is that it’s “dead water.” This phrase creates a lot of confusion among people because it’s a strange concept. After all, how can water be dead? Is water even alive?

Many people are justifiably concerned when they hear that RO water is dead water. It certainly doesn’t sound good, does it?

If you’re in that boat, we want to alleviate your concerns by explaining what dead water is and what a reverse osmosis system actually does.

Through these explanations, we will show you that water from a reverse osmosis system is not dead water! In truth, it’s an excellent option for your health.

What is Dead Water?

So, how can water be dead? That’s the question, isn’t it? After all, the last time we checked, water isn’t technically alive by traditional standards. So, what gives?

The truth is, “dead water” is a term used to describe water that has been stripped of its good minerals, such as calcium and magnesium.

As we will see, these minerals provide many health benefits for the body.

The Health Benefits of Calcium and Magnesium

Our bodies need calcium and magnesium to function at their best.

Calcium is essential for many different body functions. It enhances bone growth, helps muscles contract, keeps the heart functioning properly, and more! When a person is deficient in calcium, all sorts of health problems can occur, including tooth decay, bone fractures, and insufficient blood clotting.

Similarly, magnesium helps the body in a wide variety of ways. It promotes healthy brain function, lowers blood pressure, fights inflammation, and more! Without it, the body is susceptible to many disorders, including heart diseases, osteoporosis, and type 2 diabetes.

The body needs a steady supply of both of these minerals. And while you can get them from other sources, such as food and medicine, drinking water is an excellent way to keep your body supplied with them.

The Consequences of Dead Water

It’s no wonder that people consider the water that lacks these minerals to be lifeless. After all, such water can do little to improve a person’s health.

Furthermore, dead water is also acidic since its pH slides below seven without alkaline minerals like calcium and magnesium.

There is much debate about the harmfulness of acidic water. But the point is it is missing valuable alkaline minerals that the body needs.

The fact is water was not meant to be acidic. It’s better off with its minerals.

What is Reverse Osmosis?

Now that we understand what dead water is, let’s talk about reverse osmosis.

Reverse osmosis is a simple, yet effective method for filtering out contaminants from water.

A reverse osmosis filter guides water through a semipermeable membrane to remove dissolved solids. These dissolved solids include harmful contaminants like lead, mercury, chromium-6, and chlorine. The resulting water is pure and contaminant-free!

It’s no wonder that reverse osmosis is a popular filtration method in the greater Chicago region since Chicago water contains all of the contaminants listed above and more. Reverse osmosis removes those harmful contaminants to keep Chicagoans’ water clean.

The issue with the reverse osmosis process is it doesn’t just remove bad minerals from water. It is also highly effective at taking out good minerals like calcium and magnesium.

So, in effect, the process of reverse osmosis does produce “dead water” (initially, at least).

But before you go dismissing RO as a filtration option, we want to reassure you that not all reverse osmosis water filters produce dead water!

Confused? Let us explain.

What Does a RO Water Filtration System Do?

As we have seen, reverse osmosis on its own is not the best way to filter water. While the process is very effective at removing harmful contaminants, it is equally effective at taking out the healthy minerals. As a result, it generates water that is neither harmful or helpful. The water is simply dead.

Unfortunately, this type of water is very prevalent in our society. For example, many bottled water companies use RO water with no healthy minerals in it.

But the good news is, there are reverse osmosis filtration systems that don’t stop at removing contaminants and minerals.

For example, at Angel Water, we sell reverse osmosis systems that don’t just filter out the bad but add in the good!

Our NSF-certified systems run water through the reverse osmosis process, removing 95% of total dissolved solids to effectively clean the water. Then, once the water is effectively dead, our systems bring it back to life by adding in healthy minerals, including calcium and magnesium!

In this way, our reverse osmosis filtration systems offer the complete process necessary for healthier water for your home and family.

The water they produce is not dead. In fact, it’s water that has been made dead and brought back to life! And the new life is even better than it was initially because it is both contaminant-free and contains all the healthy minerals it should!

What to Expect with Your Reverse Osmosis System Installation

Reverse osmosis systems produce the healthiest water possible—ROs work by running water through a semi-permeable membrane where excess sediments are caught. Consistent exposure to these sediments/contaminants can lead to serious health problems. ROs get rid of elements other water treatment equipment cannot. So, you should consider putting one in your home. Below is a resourceful […]
